Keep players moving
Limit standing in lines

Arrival activity — 5 minutes
Let players dribble, pass, or complete a simple movement activity as they arrive.
Skill activity — 10–15 minutes
Focus on one skill with a short explanation and demonstration.
Small-sided activity — 10–15 minutes
Use small groups so players stay involved and make decisions.
Scrimmage — 10–20 minutes
Let players play without stopping every mistake.
Closing — 2 minutes
Recognize effort, share one reminder, and confirm pickup.
Use simple language
Give one instruction at a time
Keep activities short
Expect distractions
Use imagination and games
Celebrate effort
Avoid overcorrecting
Give players more decision-making responsibility
Ask questions instead of always giving answers
Focus on teamwork and positioning
Keep activities competitive but positive
Allow play to continue through minor mistakes
Reinforce communication and sportsmanship
Players learn by making decisions, trying, making mistakes, and trying again. Coaches do not need to control every movement from the sideline.
